GAMES DAY 2007

On the 23rd September the NEC ( National Exhibition Center ) , Birmingham , hosted the great GAMES DAY 2007 event. It was my first GD experience and i must say that it was a really rewarding and entertaining experience. Started by visiting the Forge World Goodies and boy that place was swarming with people , but for my surprise i found out that one of my favourite artists was there giving autographs and chatting up with the folk , ladies and gentleman , Karl Kopinsky himself , having a chance to exchange some words with him and being rewarded with a really awesome sketch on my Sketchbook wich left me jaw opened for the rest of the day until today . Proceeding to the forge world stuff , i had the occasion to learn more stuff about the new upcomming aircraft models by Forge World designer Simon Egan and also took a peek at the concept ideas that makes part of the whole production process .
Overwhelmed by my first contacts in GD , i forgot to run to the Black Library stands to get my hands on the newest Horus Heresy novel and some Art prints first , wich unluckily when i got there were allready sold out ( damn you fans !!! i want some too !). After countless viewings of amazing stuff from models , displays , scenarios ( really amazing works ) and the Golden Deamon submissions and my attempt on the art competition submission , i found out that The Great Alex Boyd and GW Creative Director Jonh Blanche ( to whom i have to give thanks for creating the imagery that made GW what it is today) were on the Studio section and that my friends ,that was the high moment of the day , the simple fact of being in the same space with this great names that helped shape my teenagehood and insipiration was a dream came true. In the Design Studio i had the oportunity to see a big deal of how the design process is done: from concepts , photoart , 3D aided sculpting ( wich i didnt even dreamed it was made that way ) to The hardware that makes the shapes and all that stuff, Really worth to have seen it all . In the Media entertainment area games like Warhammer Mark of Chaos , Warhammer Online Age of reckoning , Warhammer 40k DOW and the highly anticipated Squad Command for the portable handheld consoles ( PSP , DS ) were being queued and played by hundreds of eager fans , and some were even screaming on the Squad command Multiplayer Stands like if it was some kind of football match wich is a good thing and i cant wait to put my hands on that game. Having met some friends in the area i only regret that there wasnt any beer in the several restaurants and take aways that surrounded the area , but its quite understandable in such a event, well have some propper beers next time Rob :) .
The Great Finale was the presentation of the Golden Deamon Awards and the Slayer Sword Trophy , a great Cheers and Congratz to the talented people that won this Accolades , its amazing the quantity of the highly talented people who took part on this contests .

Concluding , Games DAy 2007 was The Experience , im really glad to have drag my arse from home at 4:35 am to Richmond to get a a Coach to the event . Cheers!

Unfinished Projects: The Ylladian Conflict

This concepts were part of a comic book project i was writting and doing the conceptual work back in 2001/2003. Unfortunatelly i never finished it due to some lack of motivation back in those days . The background of this story was settled up in a sci fi atmosphere . A Great war ravaged the Region of Ylladas , a continent of the planet Akh . The Ylladian conflict was basically a full scale urban guerrilla between two factions , the followers of the Great King Marmaduke , and the Neo Technologica Conclave , once the high tech branch of King Marmaduke empire. Its not a post apocalitpic Terran future but a conflict in a fictional planet that is still not immersed in war. I Would say that there is no good or evil factions in this story , but only a plot of politics and deceit that takes place in the Ylladian region . King Marmaduke is dead , and his Son , Apopheus is the current leader . The Technologica Conclave , is the principal antagonist here because it never recognized Apopheus as the regions leader , and since Apopheus is a follower of the old ways , he tried to dismantle the Technologica Conclave for the best of the planet . The technologica conclave was considered a danger to the eyes of the world since due to the side effects of the way they operated caused to the world ( you know , pollution , resources , etc ) This faction is rulled by former Industry and manufacturers regents , and they have the upper hand at this moment. Their army is constituted by cyborgs and heavy machinery of all kind , . The Old ways is basically a Religious following kind of cult , strongly based in ancient monarquical rules and ways of knighthood, before the conflict started this faction has to rely in outside help in what comes to supplies and weapons . The Old Ways is constituted by all the former commercial and clerical guild leaders that in some ways joined Apopheus struggle, but are they all helping out?
The Concepts shown here are : a Hatekorps Elite trooper , a Ars Technologica Heavy weapons drone , a Merauder tactical APC and merauder Scout.

This one was done long time ago , i believe its a 7 year old picture that i had stored in my HD . I must thank to my friend Hugo who took the time to compile most of my old stuff in a DVD . Most of that old stuff will be showcased in this blog . Now about this fellow here ... Just a random cyborg , really , like the colours and background , the pose isnt the best in the world and it bears some anatomical errors , for example , the left arm seems a little disporportional with the other , since hes in a perspective pose. Anyway i leave this one here for you. C&C is allways wellcome.

This image is a study for a painting that might come to life in the near future . It was a quick Pilot pen drawing at work , shading is not the best , composition not the happiest , but somehow i kinda like the presence of the main character . His face kinda depicts the commitment and honour a space marine gives to his Emperor in battle against the enemies of mankind.
